As a former CU athlete, I was rooting for Coach Hawkins up until his last days. Last January, as the Foundation, fans, Coloradans, and other Buffaloes called for his firing, I knew that he deserved another chance. I would have been upset if he had been fired a year ago, but I am not that upset now. Everyone deserves second chances, he got his, and unfortunately, he wasn’t able to to put together a winning CU football team. It’s not just him – the other coaching staff and the players are also responsible for the losses, but Hawkins is the one who hears about it when his plans don’t pan out. It’s unfortunate, but that’s what he signed up for. I liked him a lot. He’s a stand-up coach and a good person. I was an athlete when Coach Barnett managed the football team and its staff. Team morale, sportsmanship,

If losing a critical football game isn’t embarrassing enough, watching thousands of fans leave in droves before the game is over is even more depressing. With every quarter that passed, I lost hope for a favorable outcome of yesterday’s Broncos/Chargers game. According to my mom, the seven paragliders that flew over Invesco Stadium and onto the field before kickoff were the most exciting part of the game. And my dad fell asleep at the top of the fourth quarter. I fixed that with a hard nudge. As for Steve and me, we stayed awake and paid attention the entire game. I even have bathroom tricks to minimize time away from the game. I would share them with you, but then I would have to wait longer in the secret lines. In any event, as you may know, this particular game was painful to watch. I am a wonderful fan though:

One of my favorite Michael Scott quotes is: “I guess this is what they call a bittersweet moment. It is bitter because I slightly destroyed a wonderful little family. But sweet because David Wallace thought I did a good job. That’s what I hate bittersweet chocolate. I don’t even… what’s the point of that? Why not just sweet? Who are you helping?” I love football, but it does makes me sad sometimes. I wanted to see the Cardinals win their first championship more than I wanted to see the Steelers become the first team to win six championships. Football is just one big bittersweet moment, especially when the camera veers back and forth between sadness and happiness. I feel so happy for the winning team, because winning is awesome, but then they switch to the other team completely deflated and I get depressed. But back to cheers and Gatorade coolers

When I competed at the National Cheerleading Association nationals in 2003, I only finished 6th. This year, at the Universal Cheerleading Association nationals (NCA and UCA are the two big ones), Chip won! Mascoting might seem easy, but it’s actually quite challenging and somewhat dangerous. Parents shove their 20 lb babies and children at you for a photo or 20 (I almost dropped a baby once); drunk college dudes tackle you and think that because you look like a buffalo, they can pummel you to the ground and start punching you in the gut (I have a scar on my face to prove it); equally as drunk college women think you’re the most adorable oh my god! thing that ever existed (which would be awkward for all of us if they realized that I’m a 5’6″ chick), and last but not least, I’ve never sweat or had a harder cardio
